Chatelain is inspired by a sign in the Museum of Science & Industry U-Boat exhibit that reads “DRIVE CAREFULLY SUBMARINE CROSSING.” This sign was posted when the U-Boat was making its journey across Lake Shore Drive from Lake Michigan to the museum in 1954. The name comes from the USS Chatelain, the Navy destroyer that captured the U-Boat in 1944.
